Recovery and Mental Health Services
What it would actually take to make recovery and mental health care reachable for families in District 30.
When people ask what an expanded recovery system looks like, the honest answer is unglamorous: enough beds, enough coaches, enough transportation, and a phone number that a person in crisis can call at two in the morning and get a human being.
Right now, too much of that depends on how far a family can drive and how long they can wait. A person ready for help today should not be told to call back in three weeks.
In Charleston, that means funding peer recovery coaches, protecting rural clinics, and putting mental health support inside our schools where problems get caught early.
None of this is charity. It is the least expensive thing we can do — for our budgets, our hospitals, and our families.
